[Visual] Opening frame shows the shape of a body from the back in a dark space, walking towards a bright light.
The frame flicks to a front on shot of a man without a shirt on. He’s standing in a dark space with a rectangle spotlight directed at him. He looks up directly to camera and shifts his weight while looking directly at the camera.
Projected words flash up against his body and shift quickly to the voice over ‘No one knows you like you.’ He’s standing uncomfortably, shifting his weight and fidgeting uncomfortably.
[Audio / voice over] No one knows you, like you.
The voice is eerie, has dark tones, a little creepy.
[Visual] The camera slowly pans in. The man is looking smug but vulnerable. The words ‘A Scammer’ flashes quickly.
[Audio] Glitchy sounds
[Audio / voice over] No one knows your face…
[Visual] The camera continues to zoom in. The lighting and projections on the man’s body start flicking through images and different snapshots of him – with various other people – friends and family.
[Audio / voice over] …like you.
[Visual] A new frame shows an extreme close up of the man’s chin, which has coarse stubble. The focus is on his lips which move to the voice over.
[Audio / voice over] No one knows your voice like you…
[Audio] We hear a second voice which says the same line ‘No one knows your voice like you’ at the same time as the voice over.
[Visual] The shot changes to an outline of the side of the man’s stomach and arm. It’s dark but you can clearly see the shape of the body. A new projection displays across his skin mimicking actions of when you’re logging into an account. An email: cody.vale@... and hidden password are entered into a typical login system which asks for a username and password. The mouse moves to click the LOGIN button. A screen then appears on his body depicting medical records and prescription information.
[Audio / voice over] or your health.
[Audio] Sounds of clicks and keyboard effects can be faintly heard as login details are typed.
[Visual] A button to ‘renew’ a subscription is selected.
[Audio / voice over] –- feeling better? [Is said in a faint voice, like the ‘scammer is watching and reacting to actions.]
[Visual] The frame flicks again to the man is standing side on. He’s looking vulnerable. Projected up onto his body is a giant yellow emoji with a sad face with a tear. It projects back onto the wall behind him where he stands in darkness and his dark shadow is visible. The emoji flicks through various emotions – upset, happy, angry.
[Audio] Very subtle humming sounds are building in the back.
[Audio / voice over] No one knows what you’re into…
[Visual] The frame flicks close up again in his face, this time focused right in on his eyes. The projection across his face is of a collection of profile photos which flick through quickly of different woman being displayed.
[Audio / voice over] ...who you’re into… like you.
[Audio / voice over] –- They’re cute. [Is said in a faint voice, like the scammer is watching and reacting to the images.]
[Visual] The shot swaps again to show a projection of a social media profile for a woman called Megan Abbes, over the man’s hairy chest. You learn from her profile, she is a dog owner or dog walker, as there is a cover image of her on the beach playing with a dog. The visualisation inserts a new last name to read: Megan Abbes-Vale and changes her relationship status from single to in a relationship. The profile also shows she is the co-founder of ‘Bootstrap Fabrics Ltd.’
[Audio / voice over] No one knows your partner
[Visual] The projection on the chest changes to a different online profile titled: Retirement Fund. The names Jim and Carol Vale and a bank account number ‘11-5648-2165-00’ starts panning up the chest to show a graph with a retirement fund of $300k. A photograph of an older man and a woman standing together with their arms around each are also visible, layered under the profile information.
[Audio] Subtle sounds continue to build with an increase of glitchy sounds.
[Audio / voice over] …your parents…
[Visual] A new profile projects onto the chest showing a digital photo album titled ‘Kid’s Album’ with different images of children doing various things eg: school photos, at the beach, a baby, a kid on a swing etc.
[Audio / voice over] …your kids, like you.
[Visual] the frame changes again to an extreme close-up of the man’s arm/leg. It’s very dark but through the shadow and lighting, you can see the outline and a touch of skin. You see the hairs starting to prickle upwards and stand on end, almost in slow motion.
[Audio] Sound effect sound of extremely amplified small movement
[Visual] The shot changes again with a new shot of the man’s face. We’re still in darkness with the light narrowed in to highlight the man’s eyes, nose and mouth. The shot indicates he’s looking at a screen. The projection on his face is of a business banking login screen.
[Audio / voice over] No one knows your business…
[Visual] The projection shows another login to this account with a user ID of: 990222209022 and a short password is added. The shot quickly flicks again to a higher angle, looking down on the man from above. We see his head, upper torso and arms. The background now a dark glowy blue colour with a database of customer names/distribution list projected onto his body and past him one the wall behind.
[Audio / voice over] …your customers…
[Visual] The frame changes again, back to his head and side on, with focus on his eyes which are looking up and vulnerable. The projections pop-up across his mouth and the side of his cheek. They are social media posts, which start off as a post from him – Cody Vale: ‘Got the job!!!’ – then more pop up quickly indicating reaction comments from friends ‘Congratulations!!!!’ and ‘Shot Cody!’ appearing on screen with likes.
[Audio / voice over] …your milestones…
[Audio / voice over] –- Love this. [Is said in a faint voice, like the scammer is watching and reacting to the comments and achievements]
[Visual] A new angle, the other side of his face but more head on flicks up. Projected across is an email containing information about his mortgage being approved.
[Audio / voice over] …your goals…
[Visual] The shot changes again with the man’s face side on now, his left profile. The projection changes to show an airway booking screen with journey details.
[Audio / voice over] … your plans...
[Visual] A calendar flicks up over a new extreme close up of his eye. You can make out a laptop in the reflection of his eye. The projection changes again over the eye to a ‘choose your meal’ select box. The mouse presses the drop down and selects chicken.
[Audio / voice over] … your preferences…
[Audio / voice over] –- Chicken, yeah. [Is said in a faint voice, like the scammer is watching and mimicking the choice, as if he already knows what was going to be selected.]
[Visual] The shot changes again. The man is standing straight on, looking directly towards the camera and the shot starts to slowly pan out. The projection starts to flick through multiple examples of sensitive online personal data and accounts.
We see: online banking, where we can see a bank ID, emails, a Will, a donation portal, a family trust with thousands of dollars, a police report, reservation details, test results, financial and pharmaceutical information and multiple login areas which show the username examples of: codyvale, with a weak passwords of cody1234 used across everything.
[Audio / voice over] No one knows your bank login,
…that house offer…
…that death in the family….
…that donation…
…your mother’s maiden name…
…that invitation…
…that meditation app…
…that speeding ticket…
…that reservation…
…those test results…
…what’s on your mind…
… your passwords...
…new baby.
No one knows you, like you, right?
[Audio] glitching sounds continue to click away and the backing sound drops to have them feel more amplified.
[Visual] The following words appear on screen across the top of Cody: ‘Over 4.3 million NZ account details are exposed to scammers.’
[Visual] The text and all projections drop off the screen. Cody’s body turns into a black silhouette from the torso up, and the light flashes to have the background turn green.
[Audio] The glitching sounds stop and a clean but warm hum can be heard.
[Visual] The following words appear on screen over the silhouette in white:
‘Protect yourself with lo**, ******* ********* and ***. The ‘Own Your Online’ logo also appears under on the chest of the silhouette shape.
The asterisks start to change into words to spell out ‘Protect yourself with long, unique passwords and 2FA.’
[Audio] Typing can be heard as the letters change.
[Audio / voice over] Visit how exposed am I.co.nz…
[Visual] The visual changes one last time to show a full-frontal silhouette of the body, still with the green background. A URL HowExposedAmI.co.nz appearing over top.
[Audio / voice over] … and see how exposed you are.
[Visual] A small Te Kāwanatanga o Aotearoa New Zealand Government logo appears on the bottom left and an NCSC logo bottom right of the screen.
